Highlights
Muralha Fernandina consists of a series of walls and towers that were built as early as 1336 during the reign of King D. Alfonso IV. Intended as medieval fortifications, the structure was eventually re-built in the 15th century (with money from the wine transfer tax) as the population grew. Today, visitors flock to the Trecho dos Guindais and Trecho do Caminho for their scenic views of the city and river.
